Fortunately, today’s puzzle was a fun ride! It includes a funny theme related to a popular TV show and some tricky clues to deal with.

If you are still tired from yesterday’s crossword (because I definitely am), the NYT Crossword of Feb 8 is exactly the refresher you need. It is funny, not-so-hard and a worthy challenge. Join me in NYT Crossword analysis Feb 8 to review interesting details about the puzzle.

Theme of NYT Crossword Feb 8

The theme clues of today’s puzzle are those with circled entries in the grid. Look at 23-, 39-, 45-, 67-, 87-, and 96-Across. It is interesting to note that their clues are not related to each other, but their answers are “somehow” linked. If you wonder why I said “somehow,” read the next part of the analysis. Oh, I almost forgot. Pay close attention to the puzzle’s title: Who’s in Charge Here?

23-Across (Scrunchie, e.g.) and 39-Across (Title for William beginning in 2022) solve to ELASTIC HAIR TIE and PRINCE OF WALES, respectively. Did you find any “bossy” items (in literal terms) in these two entries? Nice: CHAIR and CEO. So, we find that the constructor is putting us in charge here. Don’t believe me? See the other clues.

45-Across (Nonprofit group behind Smokey Bear and McGruff the Crime Dog) is a tricky one; I actually had to search for the answer: THE AD COUNCIL. On the other hand, 67-Across (Explicit command) is DIRECT ORDER. Again, we have two “bossy” items: Head and DIRECTOR.

87-Across (Bright shade similar to magenta) and 96-Across (Margaret Atwood novel with a love triangle involving a paleontologist) are the stars of the show. These two witty clues solve to SHOCKING PINK and LIFE BEFORE MAN.

Things got much more interesting when I checked the revealer at 115-Across: Hit reality TV series suggested by this puzzle’s groups of circled letters. The show is called UNDERCOVER BOSS, in which a company leader monitors their employees in disguise.

Actually, all the “bosses” are hidden inside the answers, just like an undercover boss. We shouldn’t forget that the real boss here is the constructor, who gathered all the members of management in one place to amuse us!

Details of NYT Crossword Feb 8

In today’s puzzle, there are 21 rows and 21 columns (as with most Sundays). Did you notice that the letters J, Q, X, and Z are not present in the crossword? Check the grid again!

Tricky Clues

90-Down (Easily moved) and 108-Down (Something hard to face?) are in the same league: punny wordplay where you have to think as simply as possible. With that in mind, the answers for these clues are PORTABLE and ACNE.

The answer to 38-Down (“Can I go now?”) is something kids often tell their parents when they are stuck helping out. “Can I go now?” is one of many ways to say ARE WE DONE.

85-Across (It typically has a string attached) is one of those hard clues whose answer is actually very easy, but you have to think outside the box. You might think of many things that have strings attached, but the final answer is TEA BAG.

If you need the answers for daily crossword puzzles like the NYT Crossword or the NYT Mini, make sure to check Daze Puzzle every day to find the solutions you need in record time.

After a rocky Saturday, the Sunday version of the NYT Crossword is like a soothing breeze for me; its clues are not too hard and because of its bigger grid, I can solve more entries and enjoy my time.
