NYT Crossword Analysis (Jan 13, 2026): From Music to Cinema!

Today’s NYT Crossword is like a gift to me. It includes two different forms of art which I adore with my heart: Cinema and Music. I know there are just two questions about music in the grid, but one of them is about one of my favorite Rock bands of all time, QUEEN (please listen to “The Show Must Go On” right now). Without any further delay, let’s jump into this artistic crossword!

In 1985, one-of-a-kind movie was released which has three different endings; each one of these endings was screened in various theaters. At that time, it was an exceptional experience and despite its poor performance at the box office, it has its cult following nowadays.

With that introduction, let’s review section 36-Across’s question: 1985 mystery film with three different endings. The answer is CLUE, but promise me you will watch the movie. Do not forget: Cinema FOREVER.

Section 55-Across is my favorite question of NYT Crossword Jan. 13. Let’s review the question: Iconic 1977 Queen hit … or a hint to 19-, 31- and 42-Across. In 1977, Queen released a song which was like an earthquake; it found its way into the music memory of Rock fans and can be considered as one of the iconic songs of all time.

Yes, you are right. This song truly is one of the best works of Queen. WEWILLROCKYOU. For a fan of Queen (including me), this refrain is written on their heart.

I want to review 4-Down question to pay homage to Chadwick Boseman, the actor who made a memorable performance in Black Panther movie as Black Panther. Question is: Birth name of Marvel Comics’ Black Panther. Mr. Boseman died at 43 in 2020, but he remains TCHALLA forever.

There are plenty of other great clues related to music and cinema today (look out for 38A, 49A, and 32D). I will leave those for you to find so you can enjoy the satisfaction of solving them yourself! Which clue was your favorite today? Let me know in the comments below!

For me, a crossword is a work of art. My goal isn't just to give you the answer, but to help you appreciate the 'why' behind it. Sometimes, all you need is a new perspective on a tricky clue to unlock the rest of the grid.
