Word Stacks is made by PeopleFun, the same studio behind Wordscapes. It’s not a from-scratch indie project. It’s part of a whole family of word games built by people who’ve been refining this genre for years.

The Twist That Sets It Apart

Most word search games hand you a flat, static grid and let you hunt at your own pace. Word Stacks changes that by layering letters. Therefore, the board shifts every time you clear a word.

Find one and the letters above it collapse down to fill the gap, which means the puzzle you’re looking at halfway through isn’t the puzzle you started with. It rewards adapting on the fly more than memorizing a layout.

Themed Levels vs. the Daily Puzzle

Regular levels in the app come with a clue tied to a theme, which narrows down what you’re hunting for.

The Daily Puzzle works differently. There’s no theme and no clue, just a stack of letters and the job of finding every word buried inside it. That’s part of why the daily version tends to feel a bit more open-ended than the story-mode levels.

One thing worth knowing going in: every puzzle in Word Stacks is solvable without spending a single coin. Hints and the shuffle option exist for convenience, not because some boards are unsolvable without them. If you’d rather earn the answer the slow way, nothing about the design is stopping you.
